Межконфессионная церковная организация, созданная при слиянии трех обществ аболиционистов [abolitionists] в 1846 с целью увеличения возможностей освобожденных рабов [freeman] к получению образования. Активисты ассоциации создали более 500 школ - на основе некоторых были основаны негритянские колледжи [black college]. В настоящее время осуществляет подобную деятельность среди индейцев, рабочих-мигрантов
